Two years back, my job was very easy. I used to open Excel, clean up data, do some pivot tables, and prepare reports for my managers. I was good at it. But there was always something missing inside me. I wanted to get into real data science and start making decisions that could impact the business. That’s when I decided to enroll in a Data Science Training in Jaipur, and I can tell you it has really changed the course of my career.
The Turning Point
I can recall the moment when I understood that knowledge of Excel alone wouldn’t take me very far. Predictive models and machine learning became buzzwords in my firm, but I didn’t have any idea of what they were. I just felt confused during the meetings and decided to find a proper course rather than watch some videos on YouTube.
Starting From Scratch
But when I began the course, there was fear in me. I didn’t have any experience in coding, and to begin with, Python seemed to be another alien language to me. Learning by Doing
The most dramatic change in my way of thinking occurred when I got down to solving real-life problems. No more video lectures. I had to work with uncleaned datasets, create models, and give presentations – exactly how it happens in practice. The projects were related to predicting customer churn and sales forecasts. Those became the foundation of my resume.
The First Job Switch
After completing the core courses, I applied for the position of a Data Analyst in a medium-sized firm. My experience with Excel was an asset to me since I was already familiar with business data. However, in addition to that, I could now construct SQL queries, create dashboards, and perform simple Python programming for analysis. This gave me an edge over other applicants skilled in either Excel or coding alone.
Growing Into Data Science
Even after embracing my role as an analyst, I continued learning. I learned how to work with sophisticated subjects such as machine learning algorithms, model assessment, and big data. I was also mentoring another junior analyst, and this made me gain more insight in order to be able to teach him.
Becoming a Lead
Not long after I joined the company as an analyst, there arose the chance to become a leader of a tiny data science team. Initially, I was doubtful if I was capable enough to take up such a challenge. However, my mentor reminded me of the progress I had made since joining, from being a person who only knew Excel to building machine learning models. Twelve months later, I became a leader of data science teams for the company.
What Made the Difference
In hindsight, there were three major advantages I gained from taking this course: regular practice, working on real projects, and following a methodical approach rather than randomly going through materials on the Internet. Not having a theoretical background would be a disadvantage when explaining my models to senior management.
My Advice to Anyone Stuck in Excel
If this sounds like you – sitting in front of spreadsheets all day long and feeling that there is more for you to accomplish, understand that the transition is definitely possible. You don’t need to quit your job and wait for years in order to achieve it.
