Choosing the right digital lock bundle means pairing compatible locks for your main door and gate that match your access habits, door type, and security needs. For most Singapore homes, the ideal bundle covers both the main door and metal gate with fingerprint, PIN, or app-based entry giving you seamless, keyless access at every entry point.
Why Bundles Make More Sense Than Buying Locks Separately
Most HDB flats and condos in Singapore have two entry points: a metal gate and a main timber or metal door. Buying locks individually often leads to mismatched aesthetics, incompatible access modes, or the inconvenience of managing two completely different systems.
A bundle solves this. You get locks designed to work together often from the same brand, with the same access credentials, and sometimes even linked through one app. It is a cleaner, more practical setup, and typically more cost-effective than purchasing each unit separately.
What to Look for in a Digital Lock Bundle
1. Door and Gate Compatibility
This is the most critical starting point. In Singapore, HDB gates are typically mild steel or mild steel with aluminium framing, while main doors are usually solid timber or fire-rated metal. Not every digital door lock fits every door thickness or profile.
Before you purchase, check:
- - Door thickness (typically 35mm–55mm for HDB main doors)
- - Gate frame width and whether it supports mortise or rim lock mechanisms
- - Existing lock cutout dimensions if you are replacing an existing unit
A good bundle will clearly state compatible door types. If in doubt, request an on-site measurement before committing.
2. Access Modes That Suit Your Lifestyle
Different households have different daily rhythms. A family with elderly parents may prioritise PIN and fingerprint access. A young professional who travels frequently may want remote app access or a one-time PIN for cleaners or guests.
Common access modes in digital door lock bundles include:
- - Fingerprint - Fast, contactless, ideal for daily use
- - PIN code - Reliable backup, easy to share temporarily
- RFID card or fob - Useful for children or domestic helpers - - Mobile app / Bluetooth - Remote access and activity logs
- - Physical key - Emergency fallback, always worth having
Most premium bundles offer five or more access modes. The more overlap between your gate lock and main door lock in terms of access methods, the smoother your daily routine.
3. Smart Features and Connectivity
A smart door lock goes beyond just keyless entry. Wi-Fi or Bluetooth-enabled locks let you monitor access remotely, receive alerts when the door is left open, and grant temporary access without being home. This is particularly useful for condo residents who receive frequent deliveries or manage short-term rentals.
Some digital lock bundles work with smart home systems such as Google Home or Amazon Alexa. If you already use a smart home system, choose locks that are compatible with it and do not require an additional hub.
4. Security Ratings and Anti-Tamper Features
Not all locks are built equally. Look for bundles that include:
- - Anti-drill and anti-saw protection on the lock body
- - Alarm triggers for repeated failed access attempts
- - Auto-lock function that secures the door after a set interval
- - Mortise lock mechanism for the main door, which offers stronger resistance than rim locks
In Singapore, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) has published home security advisories recommending multi-point locking systems for main doors. A robust digital gate lock paired with a well-rated main door lock fulfils this recommendation without relying on traditional padlocks.
5. Installation Requirements
Professional installation is highly recommended for digital lock bundles, especially if your existing door requires new cutouts or reinforcement. Poor installation affects both security and performance a misaligned latch or sensor can cause read errors and false alarms.
Reputable suppliers in Singapore typically include installation as part of the bundle price. Always confirm whether the installation fee covers both the gate lock and main door lock, especially for HDB units where gate configurations vary by block age and design.
Matching the Bundle to Your Home Type
How to Evaluate Bundle Value
A lower price does not always mean better value. When comparing bundles, look at the total package: lock quality, number of access modes, warranty period, after-sales support, and whether installation is included.
Key questions to ask before purchasing:
- What is the warranty period for both the gate and main door lock?
- Is battery replacement straightforward, and what is the average battery life?
- Does the brand have a local service centre or technician support in Singapore?
- Can user credentials be stored locally on the device, or does it require a cloud connection?
Locks that store credentials locally are less vulnerable to connectivity issues and server downtime an important consideration for everyday reliability.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Many first-time buyers focus only on the main door lock and overlook the gate entirely. In Singapore's two-barrier entry setup, leaving the gate with a traditional padlock while upgrading the main door defeats much of the security purpose. A true bundle addresses both entry points.
Another frequent mistake is not checking lock-to-door alignment during installation. Always test the auto-lock and each access mode before the installer leaves. Issues caught immediately are far easier to resolve than problems reported weeks later.
Making Your Final Decision
Start with your door and gate types, then match access modes to your household's actual habits. Prioritise security certifications, anti-tamper features, and reliable local after-sales support. A bundle that covers both entry points, includes professional installation, and is backed by a local warranty will serve you far better than two individually sourced locks.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a digital lock bundle?
A digital lock bundle is a set of two or more digital locks typically one for the main door and one for the gate sold together for compatible, coordinated home security. Bundles are designed to work seamlessly across both entry points and often offer cost savings compared to purchasing each lock separately.
Do I need approval from HDB to install a digital gate lock?
HDB generally permits digital lock installation on gates and main doors as long as structural modifications are not required. However, any permanent alterations to the gate frame or door frame may need prior approval. It is advisable to check with HDB or your town council before proceeding with installation.
Which access mode is most reliable for daily use in Singapore?
Fingerprint recognition is the most commonly used access mode for daily entry due to its speed and convenience. However, a PIN code serves as a dependable backup, especially in humid conditions where fingerprint sensors may occasionally misread. A good digital door lock in Singapore should support at least three access modes.
Can I install a digital lock bundle in a condo unit?
Yes, but check with your Management Corporation Strata Title (MCST) first, particularly for gate modifications. Most condos permit smart door lock installation on the main door without issue. Gate lock changes may require written approval depending on the development's by-laws.
Is professional installation necessary for a digital lock bundle?
Professional installation is strongly recommended, particularly when replacing existing hardware or fitting locks on non-standard doors. Incorrect installation can affect sensor accuracy, auto-lock performance, and overall security integrity. Many reputable Singapore suppliers include installation as part of the bundle package.
