Planning a Singapore Trip from Australia? A Practical 6-Day Itinerary

By Jordan Williams     08-10-2026     1

Get a taste of everything in a small space. A modern and clean city that is also easy to navigate. In just a few days you can experience many kinds of cultures, local cuisine, parks and much more.

5 nights and 6 days is a reasonable length of time to visit from Australia for a first trip. You'll be able to see all of the highlights without having to spend the whole of your holiday rushing around from attraction to attraction.

This is a fairly laid back trip for 6 days. However, depending on who you are travelling with and what you like there is always scope to change it up.

Day 1: Arrive & Explore Marina Bay

Arrive At Changi Airport And Don't Be Rushed Firstly, and most importantly, go straight away to your hotel and check in. Don't be tempted to run around trying to cram in loads on your first few hours!

The MRT is great to use from the airport if you are on a budget. If you are dragging loads of heavy luggage it may be easier to book a ride or get a taxi.

When you are done, it is time to go to Merlion Park. The merlion is probably the very first thing you will want to see in Singapore. It is also a good place for photos.

Next, walk on towards Marina Bay Sands. You can sit down at a number of locations around the bay and enjoy a drink or a snack.

If a spectacular city view is what you're after, the Sky Park Observation Deck should definitely be on your list. Evening visits to see the sunset in an awe-inspiring setting.

Later during the evening, you can witness the Spectra light and water show and that brings a nice end to the first day without making the itinerary too busy.

Day 2: Little India and Gardens by the Bay

Begin your day in Little India. Have breakfast here and do a quick walk around. It's very vibrant compared to the Marina Bay area, with temples, shops and stunning buildings.

Next, visit the Art Science Museum at Marina Bay Sands. Suitable for families as there are many hands-on displays to see.

Reserve the afternoon for Gardens by the Bay.

I wouldn't leave off the Cloud Forest. The interior waterfall is pretty impressive and it's much cooler inside so it offers a welcome relief from the heat outside.

Another way to view the Gardens By The Bay attractions is to walk the OCBC Skyway. Enjoying the gardens from above. In addition, of course, there is always the option to walk the GC BC S kyway.

Come for the evening at least for Garden Rhapsody. The Supertrees are lit up during the show and there's a whole different vibe at night.

Day 3: Sentosa Day

Day three is the perfect time to visit Sentosa Island.

Nearest station to Vivo City - from where you can take the monorail or cable car to continue from there. I would take the cable car at least once because it is quite a nice ride.

In conclusion, if you are a fan of theme parks then you should be spending the majority of the day at Universal Studios Singapore. With it being filled with rides, shows and different themed zones this could take you a good couple of hours

However, if you are travelling with a younger child then you might wish to give Universal Studios a miss and look at some of the other things to do in Sentosa

In the afternoon, take a few hours at Siloso Beach. There's no need to rush from attraction to attraction, because relaxing by the beach is a good way to end your day.

The previous show, Wings of Time, is also on in the evenings. Be sure to double check booking details before you go as you might need to book seats.

Day 4: Explore More of Sentosa

If you like Sentosa, you may want to allow an extra day for the island instead of cramming everything into one day.

Continue to take the cable car from Vivo City or hop on the complimentary Sentosa shuttle buses.Madame Tussauds Singapore If you are a tourist and love snapping away at photos, Madame Tussauds Singapore is a wonderful place to visit. There's also the Sea Aquarium and many other attractions suitable for family outings.

Remember the beaches. Siloso, Palawan and Tanjong Beaches on Sentosa island all offer different experiences.

Siloso Beach can get busier, but Tanjong Beach is the place to go if you're looking for a more peaceful setting.

You might as well spend the night around the Siloso. There are cafs and eateries, therefore there's no need to hightail it from the city.

Day 5: Sights of Old and New Singapore

Once we've had a couple of frantic days, day five is a breeze.

Begin at Kampong Glam and take a walk to see the Sultan Mosque. The golden dome is a real eye-catcher and the surroundings are a perfect place for a stroll.

Make sure to also have a quick walk along Haji Lane. There are many multicoloured buildings, cafes and shops located in the Haji Lane area.

Next, make your way to Fort Canning Park. This is a nice quiet change from the busy street and also famous for the tree tunnel.

In the evening Visit the Singapore Night Safari.

Because it's slightly out of town, a taxi will save you a lot of time getting there. This isn't like a regular zoo day-time visit though as you get to see the animals when they're out in the evening.

Next, explore Clarke Quay. This is a bustling area with plenty of restaurants, cafs and nightlife along the riverfront.

Day 6: Keep Your Last Day Easy

No more marathon sightseeing days planned for before your flight?

Based on your departure times, you might be able to grab a leisurely breakfast, do some shopping or check out the sights of the airports before your flights.

Night flight? Explore the city during your layover.

Wrap up the last day on a low note to extend your trip when plans are bumped.

Getting Around in Singapore

Getting around Singapore is easier than most parts of the trip.

The MRT is generally the first thing I would consider using. It is cheap and relatively accessible to most of the major tourist attractions.

On occasions where it is a bit further but you are tired / feeling lazy or have baggage, Grab or a taxi might be easier.

There's no need to take a taxi all the time. Take the MRT for long trips and book a car when it's appropriate to save money on transportation.

A Few Things to Know Before You Go

Hotels and main sights in Singapore can be a little costly.

Eating is a category where you can really cut down. Instead of eating out at a restaurant for all your meals, go check out some of the local hawker centres. There is plenty of good food you can get that is cheap

Weather Another aspect is the weather. It will be hot and humid and it can rain rather suddenly. The weather is hot and humid, with a fair amount of rain possible at very short notice. You will find yourself more comfortable in a light cool dress and an umbrella.

Observe the local customs in Singapore. A joke openly made in another country may be caught and prosecuted in here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Australian citizens need a Singapore Arrival Card?

YES. If you’re an Australian travelling to Singapore, you’ll need to apply electronically for the Singapore Arrival Card (SGAC) before you arrive. Applying electronically for the Singapore Arrival Card (SGAC) is not a visa and does not affect an existing visa requirement.

How many days is enough for a Singapore trip?

For many first-time visitors, five to six days is the perfect amount of time to see the main sights of Singapore at a relaxed pace. On a 5-night, 6-day itinerary, you can see the Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, Sentosa Island, experience some of the most diverse cultures in Singapore (Little India, Kampong Glam), and visit the Night Safari. To move further into Malaysia, an additional couple of days will make for a more relaxing experience.

How much will a 5-day trip to Singapore cost?

Singapore accommodation and attractions are costly, so your itinerary, travel dates, flight route, hotel star grade, activities, and food selection will all affect your overall Singapore trip cost. The starting amount for a good trip can be around 999 AUD and can change according to different seasons.

What are the dos and don’ts in Singapore?

Do:

Use the MRT and public transport to get around efficiently.

Carry a small amount of cash for hawker stalls and smaller vendors.

Dress comfortably for Singapore’s hot and humid weather.

Follow local rules and keep public spaces clean.

Book popular attractions in advance where required.

Don’t:

Litter or ignore local regulations.

Smoke outside designated smoking areas.

Eat or drink on public transport.

Jaywalk where it is prohibited.

Assume every attraction or activity is available without advance booking.

Is Grab cheaper than a taxi in Singapore?

Grab is sometimes less expensive than a taxi, but a taxi fare can easily be higher in busy days when there is a high volume of demand, during rush hours and in a jam, it really depends on the type of ride that you choose. It can be worth to look at the Grab fare and compare it with taxi services.

What should tourists not do in Singapore?

Tourists shouldn’t litter, smoke where they shouldn’t, eat or drink on the MRT, and should respect Singapore’s local, rules and regulations. Taxis are great but they shouldn’t be used exclusively, and visitors should respect local customs and respect attraction rules, regulations, and rules of visits.

Final Words

A little forward planning can go a long way Whether it’s the most visited museum in the world, the large water world, or the huge theme park, you should book them all in advance. Make use of Singapore’s world-class public transport system and keep a watch on your daily budget, but leave some room in your plans for the occasional monsoon shower.
